Red Cloak[edit | edit source]

A first-tier red cloak

When first starting a game, the Wayfarer will have a red cloak. The color is the same as other types of Cloth Creatures encountered in the game. No other type of Rythulian appears to have this color of cloak.

A player or character with a red cloak is often referred to a Red Cloak, with capital first letters. Another nickname is "Reddie."

Whereas a White Cloak has a "beak" on their mask, a Red Cloak does not.

White Cloak[edit | edit source]

A third-tier white cloak

If a player collects all 21 Symbols scattered throughout the game, they will unlock the Transcendence trophy, as well as the ability to wear a white cloak, reminiscent of the Ancestors. Once unlocked, a player can switch to having a white cloak by walking into the wardrobe in the hub area of the Chapter Select level.

A player or character with a white cloak is often referred to a White Cloak, with capital first letters.

White Cloaks start with a longer Scarf, which also recharges when the player touches the ground.

Along with being white, White Cloak has a 'beak' on the mask, like the Ancestors do. Unlike most markings, the beak does NOT appear to glow.

It's actually possible to start a new game as a White Cloak:

  1. Have an existing game running
  2. Make sure you're playing as a White Cloak
  3. Quit to the game title
  4. Start a new game
    • The game will warn you that your current progress will be lost - select "Yes" to continue
  5. You should be a White Cloak as you get your first "tutorial"

Tiers of Embroidery[edit | edit source]

The four different tiers for a Red Cloak

As a player completes different journeys, the level of embroidery will increase, maxing out after they've finished three complete journeys. The embroideries resemble the different areas that players journey through. A person with the basic level of embroidery is also known as a "first-run."

It's impossible to have the first tier of embroidery as a White Cloak. In fact, no texture exists for a first-tier White Cloak in the game files.

First-tier Reddies typically won't meet White Cloaks - in fact, they're not supposed to be able to - but there have still been reports of it happening on occasion. It reportedly happened a lot more than usual after the initial release of the iOS version.

In the beta[edit | edit source]

See: The beta

In the beta, a Wayfarer's embroidery level increased at the end of Confluence. The Ancestor they were meeting had a Symbol, which they would gift to the Wayfarer(s), adding embroidery that resembles the completed level in question.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

One reason for choosing the color red is so that players could see each-other easily.

Though the White Cloak is reminiscent of the Ancestors, said Ancestors are whiter than White Cloaks.

Speculation[edit | edit source]

The red cloak of the Wayfarers may indicate their connection to the cloth animals of Rythulia.

In Fanon[edit | edit source]

Unless they're interpreted as people IN cloaks, instead of living cloth people, Wayfarers will often pick things up with the tips of their cloaks, or with their scarves.

Fan characters can have all sorts of colors for their cloaks, and may even have unique embroidery. “Fallen“ characters are typically Black Cloaks.

Different-colored Wayfarers may still have the power of a White Cloak. A term that may be used for these typed of characters is "Transcendent," after the trophy. For example, Cyanis is a Transcendent Blue Cloak.
